The case

Our summary of the public record. The small numbers show where each fact comes from.

On July 18, 2022, construction workers clearing land near New Leatherwood Drive in Palm Coast's Toscana community found a human bone. FCSO, FDLE, the District Medical Examiner and the University of South Florida's Florida Institute for Forensic Anthropology & Applied Science then excavated the site and recovered most of a skeleton.

In October 2022 the USF team, led by Dr. Erin Kimmerle, released a computer-generated facial approximation. They described a Black or mixed-race man, roughly 35 to 50 years old. Reporting at the time said the remains were thought to have been there for years, possibly 10 to 20, and that he did not match the people then listed as missing in Flagler County.

How he died has not been determined, and FCSO lists the case type as undetermined. The bones were sent for DNA testing in hopes of identifying him. FCSO tracks the case as #22-64495.
