The story

In short: An open missing person case involving Colleen Elizabeth Perris from Plantation, Florida, September 30, 2000. Plantation Police Department is the investigating agency (case no. 0010000046). Tips: Plantation Police Department, 954-797-2100.

Our summary of the public record. The small numbers show where each fact comes from. Tap one to see the source.

Colleen Perris was 18 when she left her family's home in Plantation, Florida, on the afternoon of September 30, 2000. According to case summaries, she took a call on her cell phone around 3 p.m., told her parents she was heading to Coral Springs for a short while, and said she would be back in time to go to a Florida Marlins game with them that evening. She never came home.

Six days later, on October 6, 2000, her white 1994 Mazda MX-6 was found in a shopping-center parking lot in Tamarac. Case summaries say her phone and purse were not with the car. Investigators have not said publicly where she went after leaving home.

The case stayed open with the Plantation Police Department for more than two decades. In March 2026 the FBI's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP) issued a new alert asking law enforcement and the public for help. It lists her tattoos (a butterfly on her lower back, a Chinese character on her right ankle and a band on her left ankle) and piercings, and asks anyone with information to contact Plantation police.
