In December 2019 Daniel Kriz drove his brother's pickup truck from New York to Florida. On February 5, 2020, investigators said, he was last seen leaving a gas station on Main Street in Daytona Beach shortly after spending time at Froggy's Saloon.

In March 2020 deputies answered repeated complaints about a suspicious vehicle at Waterfront Park in Palm Coast and found the truck abandoned there. Fox 35 reported that cameras recorded the truck pulling into the park the morning after Kriz was last seen, but the driver could not be made out. The Charley Project reports his wallet and phone were inside. His brother picked up the truck on March 14, 2020 and reported him missing the next day.

FCSO says Kriz had no known ties to Flagler County, and detectives have called it one of their most puzzling missing-person cases. It is listed as case #20-25050.
