On September 25, 2008, an out-of-state relative reported Patricia Ferro missing after not hearing from her for a long time. When deputies went to her last known address on Coral Reef Court in Palm Coast, they learned she had been evicted about a year earlier.

Investigators found that deputies had already come across her driver's license and other belongings under the Hammock Dunes Bridge in 2007.
