On the morning of Oct. 29, 1997, Andrea Ford, who also went by Andrea Daniluk, was found on the side of the road near State Road 100 and County Road 302 in rural Bunnell. Investigators said she had been shot in the back of the head. She was from the Daytona Beach area.
Nearly two years later, on Sept. 8, 1999, Dawn Petterson, also from the Daytona Beach area, was found shot the same way beside a road in Palm Coast. The Flagler County Sheriff's Office says the investigation found that the same gun was used in both killings. Neither case has been solved.
When FCSO launched its first Cold Case Unit in 2020, the Ford and Petterson killings were among the first cases it reopened. The Sheriff's Office said biological evidence from both was being evaluated for DNA testing that did not exist in the 1990s. Detectives are asking anyone who knew Andrea, or knew who she spent time with in the fall of 1997, to come forward.
